Gabberts
Furniture Closing Dallas Campus and Taps Henry S. Miller to
Lease 235,000 sf
DALLAS,
TX - May 1, 2006 --
Gabberts Furniture is closing its Dallas campus location at
Midway Road and LBJ Freeway and has tapped brokers Vaughn
Miller, Henry S. Miller IV and Daniel Harris, of Henry S.
Miller Commercial to re-lease the 235,000 square foot campus
property. Gabberts opened its Dallas location in 1973 and
the new store featured furniture creatively displayed in
vignettes — a first for the industry — allowing customers to
envision how entire rooms of items would look in their home.
At one time this location was single highest volume
furniture store in north Texas, but with changes in the
industry and increased competition, Gabberts decided to
close the store after 33 years of operation. The closure
does not affect Gabbert's Minneapolis store. There are two
buildings included in the campus, a 105,000 square foot
showroom on 2 levels and 135,000 square feet warehouse space
in the second building.
Gabberts interviewed several real estate firms to handle the
high profile assignment and chose Henry S. Miller Commercial
because of its great local expertise and national reach
through TCN (The Commercial Network). Vaughn Miller,
President of the Retail Division of Henry S. Miller
Commercial, explains, “We are confident that this location
will lease very quickly. The buildings are in excellent
condition and in a prime position for any retailer or other
user to come in and quickly experience the success that
Gabberts has experienced in its years at this prestigious
location.” Henry S. Miller IV added, "The Gabberts campus is
a landmark location, so much so that people use it for
driving directions in the north Dallas area.
Founded by entrepreneur Don Gabbert in 1946, Gabberts
started as a tire and appliance store in downtown
Minneapolis, before converting to a general home furnishings
shop seven years later. In 1959, Don moved the company to
the Twin Cities suburb of Edina. . The lower level included
a family-friendly Garden Court (another Gabberts trademark),
offering free refreshments, patio seating and a play area
for kids. Through the years, the furniture icon has always
been owned and operated by the Gabberts family, with
management responsibilities passing from Don to sons John
and now Jim, Chairman and CEO since 1987.
Henry
S. Miller Commercial, founded in 1914, is Texas’ largest
independent commercial real estate firm and a member of The
Commercial Network, one of the largest affiliations of
commercial real estate firms in the nation.
